When studying my transcriptions, please note:
1. Anything highlighted in (parenthesis) is my own genealogy information and not part of the stone inscription. What I am attempting to do is create loose family trees whenever possible. I make every attempt to also include maiden names as well as the names of parents for all. I look at it as my contribution to history. :) Anything in a red font is an inscription from a stone that has weathered away or no longer exists.
All inscriptions in red are taken directly from church or cemetery archives.
2. I consider my work similar to hospital triage. Essentially, I am seeking to document stones most in jeopardy of destruction. Some of the cemeteries I am documenting contain new graves as well as old. My parameters for photography and inclusion in the website are this - I generally do not document individuals born AFTER 1930 (unless their stones are fading).
My decision for doing this is threefold: stone engraving technology has become state of the art, more durable granite stones have become the most common choice of 20th and 21st century families, and lastly, federal census documents are not available for individuals born after 1930. I use census reports to determine how families are related and interwoven. For example, a John Smith born in 1935 with no spouse or parent listing would be virtually useless.
With that said, I hope you enjoy this vast collection of 18th, 19th and early 20th century stone engravings.
